This, again, I am not happy with. In contrast to Emma's story, I'm trying for a more sing-song, fairytale feel, which I'm not sure I obtained. This requires heavy edits, and is totally unfinished, but it's a starting point. Read more... )

I don't like this at all. I didn't like the last bit, either. It's too sloppy, and it's too brief. But, it's a starting point. At this stage I guess I'm trying to get the ideas and the flow of the story out, and I can polish it later. I need to write, not to get everything correct, if that makes sense.Read more... )

Writing progress

I'm currently trying to get my head around "Into the Fire". There are bits there that I don't like, and it's holding me up. I'm thinking I'm going to bash out a third episode, just to get *something* written, and go back and clean it up later. On a similar note, I've printed out all of what I've done so far, and will be editing the hell out of it.

I don't know what it is, but I've always found it easier to edit things on paper than on a screen.

"A Modern Lady's Guide..." is currently on hold until I get this "Into the Fire" stuff sorted. It's been niggling at me, you see, and I need to get it done.

The thing that I find really hard about writing is producing stuff that I know isn't up to the standard I want it to be. I need to learn that I still need to write it, and fix it up later.

So, why "A Modern Lady's Guide to Etiquette"?

Well, I go on about on occasion how much of a classic lady's education I've had in my time. It seems to be a dying tradition to raise children, particularly young girls, in a certain fashion. The one, the only, shame (in my opinion) in pushing the feminist card so hard on girls these days is that too often they lose that classic air of "woman" that used to be so important. No, I don't mean that women should be dolled up 50s housewives or any of that crap, but if a girl choses, she should be able to be a girl.

Similarly, I've had a somewhat unique upbringing, and it was expected of me to behave in certain ways. I've travelled the world. I've had dinner with some of the most important business people in asia. I've met royalty. To me, these are just those things that I've done, things that were expected of me. Sometimes I forget that I've done these things.

Along the way, I've picked up on little tips here and there, the unspoken lessons that, really, have made my life a whole lot easier. How one should behave in certain situations. Lessons of deportment. That kind of thing.

So, you know... semi-autobiographic, semi-etiquette-guide, all anecdote. I hope you like it.
